Power lines are down and police have been called to direct traffic in Ballan after a molasses truck collided with a power pole in Inglis Street at 5.20pm on Thursday.
The tanker, which normally transports molasses, was empty at the time and the truck driver has escaped without injury.
It is believed the tanker collided with a power pole at the intersection of Stead Street and Inglis Street, dislodging several power lines that have fallen onto the tanker and are lying exposed.
Police and CFA fire trucks have attended the scene and Powercor has been called.
Police have traffic diversions in place and diverting traffic away from the intersections of Duncan and Inglis Street intersections and Inglis and Fiskin Street
Power outages are currently affecting more than 120 houses and businesses in the area.
The Powercor website reports power is likely to be restored at 9pm.
