The revamped Mount Pleasant Recreation reserve was celebrated on Thursday, after a two year improvement process undertaken by the local community and City of Ballarat.
New play equipment for Ballarat’s youngsters has been installed, while existing playgrounds were relocated from the busy Barkly Street to a quieter area and upgraded.
Toilet facilities have been replaced, and a barbeque shelter has been constructed and installed within the precinct. More seating has also been created.
Although it has traditionally hosted sports such as cricket and junior football, the space has now become home to many exercise groups which meet regularly, across disciplines of boxing, yoga and high intensity interval training.
It follows the release of a master plan for the reserve in April last year, created after a community engagement session with 50 submissions.
Mount Pleasant more broadly has been undergoing a renewal process, with the Mount Pleasant Kindergarten receiving $750,000 from the state government to add a second kindergarten room, expand bathroom facilities and build a new entrance area.
