This battle was a key victory during World War II, as defeat would have resulted in all of Europe falling under Nazi occupation.
On Sunday, the Ballarat branch of the RAAFA, along with other branches from around the region, commemorated those lost in the battle.
A Church service at the Skipton Street Uniting Church at 10am was held, followed by a formal wreath laying and commemorative ceremony at the Sebastopol War Memorial in Albert Street.
RAAFA President Tom Roberts spoke about the importance of the battle, and why it is important to remember those who gave the greatest sacrifice.
“The community support has been great today, we had a full church this morning which was fantastic to see,” Said Mr Roberts.
“Churchill was never going to just rollover and surrender to the Germans, but they were heavily out-manned in the air.”
“It was only through the combined efforts of all of the ailed air forces that the battle was won.”
Those in attendance stood through the rain, and commemorated those brave soldiers in silence, while the 425 Squadron Australian Air Force Cadets played the Last Post, followed by the minutes silence.
