After raising over a quarter of a million dollars last year, the team from the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASCR) will again be participating in this years Melbourne Marathon.

Ballarat’s David MacPhail will once again be running in the event to help raise money to fund emergency accommodation, food and material aid, legal representation, and education for asylum seekers.
“I want to be a part of this, because this is the way I always imagined our country to be,” Mr MacPhail said.
The 71-year-old has already raised nearly $2,000 dollars, and is aiming to hit his goal of $5,000 dollars before the run in early October.
“I’m no one special, but I can run, so I’m happy to do this and generate some publicity behind a cause that needs it.”
Mr MacPhail began running marathons at the age of 63, with this marking the fifth he has run for the centre and his 12th in total.
“Running is fun, it’s great for me, and it’s a great way to raise awareness.”
The ASCR is currently the largest independent human rights organisation for refugees and people seeking asylum, delivering more services on the ground than any other independent asylum seeker organisation in the country.
“I’m optimistic the nation and the government will respond to the need of those who are in our country.”
The marathon takes place on October 14.
