Five clubs, the Ballarat and District Trotting Club, the Sebastopol Bowling Club, the Ballarat Leagues Club, The Miner Dome and the North Ballarat Sports Club have all combined to raise enough money for a semi-trailer worth of hay bales which will be transported to farmers doing it tough north of the Murray River.
The money raised will be donated to Rural Aid with every cent to go towards the drought battle, providing much needed feed and water for farmers.
Ballarat and District Trotting Club venue manager Rebecca Bell said the clubs had been overwhelmed with the support.
“Even people who don’t eat parmas have come in and donated,” she said. “We’ve also had some amazing support from businesses around town who have donated on top of everything.
“It was an idea that everyone got behind, literally one call was made and 15 minutes later every club was on board.”
And there is still time to give with the North Ballarat Sports Club also continuing to operate a wishing well in its foyer which can be donated to anytime.
Football operations and administration officer Lee Prentice said the club would continue to run the wishing well until it was full.
“The drought isn’t going to end tomorrow, so anything we can do to raise money will be important,” she said.
