The Falcons won its third match of the Gridiron Victoria men’s division one season in a row on the weekend, taking it to sixth on the ladder after five rounds.
After winning just four games in 2017, the feeling is one of excitement around the club.
The Falcons are continuing to reap the rewards of the growing interest in the game, with the coverage of the National Football League increasing over the past five years. Club president Casey Marin said it was exciting to see the men’s team bringing home strong results, but this was just the early stages for the developing club.
Falcons have their sights set on fielding a junior team next season, which would be a first for the club, while finding a home base is another key focus.
“We are pushing to have a junior team for next season,” Marin said.
“We really need to work on getting a home ground and getting more sponsors on board.”
Marin welcomed any interested players, singing the praises of a game that appeals to any sports-goer.
“It’s a spot that allows anybody, any shape, any size, any fitness level to actually participate – which I don’t think you can say about most sports. We’ve got plenty of guys who until gridiron had never played a sport.”
