Benjamin James Hanshaw-Brown is on bail for 39 offences, including aggravated burglary, carrying a controlled weapon and intentionally destroying property.
Police allege the 22-year-old went on a rampage on the night of February 12, burgling two houses and slashing car tyres in Wendouree Parade and Gregory Street.
Hanshaw-Brown allegedly told police after his arrest he attended the houses because “he saw a mansion and wanted to see how rich people lived”.
He fronted the Ballarat Magistrates Court on Thursday for a committal mention but the matter will now proceed to a plea hearing.
The court was told the prosecution will withdraw charges and Hanshaw-Brown will plead guilty to the remaining offences in November.
Defence barrister Eleanor Millar said she would present a mental health report of her client at the plea hearing, which was granted summary jurisdiction to be heard in the lower court.
Hanshaw-Brown’s bail was extended and includes a curfew and not to attend Wendouree Parade and Gregory Street.
