While walking home from school, year 5 and 6 pupils Hayley, Stephanie, Lillian and Connor heard a woman calling for help from a locked backyard in Edwards Street.
After heroically jumping the fence, the children found the elderly woman on the ground with a head injury. After checking if she needed an ambulance, the pupils collected a towel to apply pressure to the bleeding wound and alerting adults nearby.
“We feel really proud of ourselves,” said Lillian.
The pupils received first aid training from St John Ambulance in class earlier this year. Connor said because of the training, he knew what to do and “knew it was serious, but didn’t have to panic”.
Sebastopol Primary School principal Michelle Wilson said first aid training was an “important skill” for kids, with the pupils showing incredible teamwork.
