A man in his 40s was airlifted to Royal Melbourne Hospital after a single car crash on the Western Highway at Beaufort on Friday evening.

The man was trapped in the car for some time after the crash which happened just after 5pm as emergency service crews worked to free him.
An Ambulance spokesperson said the man was airlifted to hospital in a stable condition with back injuries.
