And the latest could be one of its best.
All-rounder Matthew Worsnop is the Bunnies latest recruit, boasting some impressive numbers in the Victorian Premier League for Kingston-Hawthorn and Essendon.
After contacting more than half the Ballarat Cricket Association first grade clubs, the Bunnies won over the services of the premier cricketer.
Worsnop has spent six years in the premier league as well as spending three seasons over in England.
The 25-year-old will be the club’s assistant coach and vice-captain of the first grade side.
Playing a mixture of firsts and seconds, Worsnop enjoyed solid averages with the bat, and while he said he prefers to be out in the middle, his numbers are slightly better with ball in hand.
Worsnop moved to Ballarat for lifestyle reasons and is enjoying his time. He said Buninyong’s culture and friendly nature appealed to him while the opportunity to help the club move into the top grade was also a key factor.
“It (my time in England) shaped me as a cricketer and also a person, I loved it,” Worrsnop said.
“(I was looking for) a bit more community rather than just who’s good a cricket, hopefully we are good at cricket as well, but they’re really good people. It’s an exciting time for the club trying to step up, it’s nice for me to be a part of that.”
Buninyong captain-coach Liam Brady is pumped to have Worsnop on board.
“He’s a quality player, he’ll be a fantastic acquisition to our side,” Brady said,
“He’s played at a higher level, which will add great experience to our team.
“To be able to secure the services of a top-line player such as Matt is a great effort for the club.”
Given Buninyong’s huge influx of players, as it prepares to make its BCA first grade debut, finding team-chemistry may take time.
But Brady said the club had been conscious to not only recruit quality players, but quality people in order to build club culture and in turn gel together as a team unit.
“When we spoke about recruiting players, we obviously wanted to recruit talented players but also good people that would fit into a strong culture - that’s been a huge focus.
“The integration of the new players in with the existing Buninyong players has been fantastic. We’re all one group moving in the same direction.”
