Award organiser and artist Margie Balazic said the event aimed to recognise the unique abilities of Ballarat children and provide opportunities for them to engage with art.
“This art award is about the children. They create the direction they go with their work,” she said.
Entries to the award are open to children from kindergarten to high school.
This year’s theme is ‘what is your story? What shapes your past?’
Entries are narrowed down to 20 per age category and judge Simon Carroll then selects the top three.
“I love that something like this can build community and get young kids excited about doing something that is creative and fun,” Mr Carroll said.
Ms Balazic founded the event in 2013 with a City of Ballarat community impact grant.
It receives around 1500 entries and increases about 25 per cent annually.
Entries are due September 30 and can be delivered to Bolton’s Office Supplies in Grenville Street.
