A special meeting in Carisbrook on Wednesday evening saw a show of hands go strongly against the Bulldogs, which were hoping to get the green light to make the move from the Central Highlands league.
MCDFNL operations officer Mitch Tinning told The Courier shortly before print deadline that the majority of clubs were present at the meeting and voted “emphatically” against Smythesdale’s transfer request.
Tinning said approximately 90 per cent of the vote was to keep the Bulldogs out of their competition.
Wednesday evening’s meeting followed a presentation from Smythesdale committee members to MCDFNL club delegates earlier this month.
The Bulldogs now have the option of taking the matter to the AFL Goldfields commission, which could grant the shift.
