Homicide detectives are treating the death of the Ballarat mother as suspicious, after her body was found during a house fire call-out on Friday morning.
Firefighters and police were initially called to a house on Kenworthy Place in Mt Pleasant around 8am to investigate smoke.
Once a small fire had been extinguished, police discovered the body of Dannyll Goodsell inside.
Friends and family have began paying tribute online to the mother of two who is originally from NSW.
"We need to bring her back home to NSW so she may now have that peace she desired and to be with her two children," a fundraising page says.
A police spokesman on Saturday said it was not believed that the victim died due to the fire.
UPDATE, 5PM: A quiet street has been rocked after a body was found in a troubled Mt Pleasant house early Friday morning.
Emergency services first responded to a report of smoke at the Kenworthy Place property at around 8am Friday.
After the CFA extinguished the fire, the body was located in the house.
Police would not confirm the identity or gender of the deceased.
A neighbour told The Courier there was a woman who lived at the property and he could hear a lot of commotion from the house yesterday morning, which he said was not unusual for the house in question.
“There is always a lot of yelling and screaming from that house,” the neighbour said.
“The past few nights people have been coming and harassing the woman living there.”
He said he started paying more attention in the morning as he heard the yelling escalate.
“I just heard screaming that there was blood everywhere, then I could hear someone running away from the place,” he said.
A second neighbour, Oprah, who lives a few doors down from the home, confirmed that incidents at the property were not uncommon.
“It’s a really quiet street,” Oprah said.
“We know most of our neighbours but I’ve never talked to them. There’s always something going on over there; screaming at each other, smashed windows.”
The homicide squad and forensic squad arrived on the scene after midday to begin their investigation.
UPDATE, 2.05PM: Police say it will be a long time before investigators finish up at the scene of a Mount Pleasant house where a body was found.
Inspector Greg Payne spoke to The Courier exclusively this afternoon.
He said there were “suspicious circumstances involved” and the homicide squad had taken over the investigation.
“The incident started with a report of smoke coming from the premises at 8am this morning, the CFA, ambulance and police were called to the scene,” Inspector Payne said.
“Subsequently the CFA extinguished the fire and at that time they located a deceased person.
“The police were called and took control of the crime scene and secured it.
“It's since been ascertained that there are suspicious circumstances involved and the homicide squad have taken carriage of the investigation and they are the ones that are continuing to manage it.
“You've also got the major crime scene, they are processing the scene and that will all take a considerable period of time to work their way through everything.”
UPDATE, 1.05PM: Neighbours who live near the house where a body was found this morning say the police often attend the property.
One neighbour told The Courier he heard a lot of yelling and screaming from the house this morning, which he said was not unusual for the house in question.
The neighbour said he heard somebody say there was blood everywhere, which caught his attention.
He then saw people trying gain access to the house, but they couldn't.
He told The Courier there had been activity in the house at night during the week.
The homicide squad and forensic squad is on scene and is combing the house.
The State Emergency Service is also setting up marquees.
Police at the scene told the media pack there would be no further information released until homicide had assessed the scene.
Another neighbour named Oprah also told The Courier the street was generally very quiet other than that particular house.
She said she’d called triple-0 in the past, but she did not not see or hear anything that happened this morning.
Oprah said she’d never spoken to anybody who lived in the house.
