Construction is well underway to bring two male Sumatran tigers to Ballarat in the park’s plans to start creating an ambush.
Wildlife Park tiger supervisor Robbie Doyle, who has worked in tiger exhibits in DreamWorld and Australia Zoo, said the Ballarat enclosures would be world-class and likely to be bigger than those at Melbourne Zoo.
“It’s something very new for the wildlife park,” Mr Doyle said.
Mr Doyle has been working closely on the project with Australia Zoo, which is where the Ballarat-bound cats will come from.
The enclosure is being built by Ballarat’s H Troon and will feature world-standard security to house the tigers. Works are on schedule for completion by late November to early December. The Tigers can move in soon after final checks and approvals are complete.
The Tiger duo will be the first major additions to the wildlife park since fairy penguins started making a splash in July last year.
