Region duty officer Steve Poulter said investigations are continuing as to what started the blaze which caused extensive damage to the laundry and smoke damage throughout the building and to the neighbouring Hotel Frangos.
The fire itself was contained to the laundry area and took just over 20 minutes to put out.
Hotel guests were evacuated to other accommodation throughout the town.
There were no injuries in the blaze.
EARLIER: Hotel guests have all escaped from a blaze at a spa and accommodation rooms in Daylesford overnight.
Nine trucks from as far away from Ballarat battled the blaze at Endota Spa in Vincent Street which broke out about 10.45pm.
One witnesses on her Twitter feed said all guests staying at the hotel were accounted for and taken to a nearby restaurant where she was offered drinks or food.
“When all else fails, walk across the road (in my dressing gown) and order a glass of red with all the other evacuees,” she tweeted.
“All the people are fine, so it’s just a bit of a cold nuisance more than anything else.”
The witness said she believed the fire started in the spa area.
A Ballarat City Fire spokesman said the HAZMAT unit was called to the blaze with investigations continuing into what caused it.
