The man, aged in this 30s, was climbing the rock when fell at about 1.30pm.
He was flown to the Royal Melbourne Hospital via air ambulance in a critical condition, where he remains.
UPDATE 4.40PM: EMERGENCY Services rescued two rock climbers who had fallen in two separate incidents at Mt Arapiles and Mitre Rock on Thursday afternoon.
Country Fire Authority roster duty officer Paul Horton said the man, who fell a distance at Mitre Rock, was rock climbing with a female companion. He said the pair were from Finland.
“Supported by Ambulance Victoria, emergency services rescued the man in a combined effort,” he said.
He said crews from Ballarat, Hamilton and Warrnambool were called, but the man was brought to the ground before the extra assistance arrived.
Mr Horton said the incident at Mt Arapiles had a man slip a short distance. He said he had a minor concussion and was walked out by emergency services.
UPDATE 4.10PM: A MAN is in a serious condition after falling at Mitre Rock on Thursday afternoon.
An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said a high angle rescue was required. She said the man in his 30s was in a serious condition with injuries to his head and back.
She said the man would be flown to the Royal Melbourne Hospital via air ambulance.
Meanwhile, she said the man who fell at Mt Arapiles was in a stable condition. The spokeswoman said he was being taken to the Ballarat Base Hospital via road ambulance.
UPDATE 3.25PM: Two men have fallen at two separate incidents at Mt Arapiles and Mitre Rock on Thursday afternoon.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said a man aged in his 30s was climbing up Mitre Rock with a companion when he fell at about 1.30pm.
Emergency services are working to reach the man. She said he was expected to be airlifted to hospital, but the extent of his injuries is not known.
Meanwhile, emergency services responded to another report of a fallen rock climber in Curtain Wall.
The spokeswoman said the man, who is believed to be 29-years-old, had been climbing at Mount Arapiles about 2.15pm when he fell several metres and hit his head.
She said the man contacted triple zero and emergency services are enroute.
EARLIER: Emergency services are responding to reports a man has fallen at Mt Arapiles.
An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said paramedics were assessing the scene and an air ambulance was enroute.
A State Emergency Services spokeswoman said they believed a man was hiking when he had fallen from a rock.
She said a Horsham unit are helping Ambulance Victoria paramedics, while a Ballarat high-angle rescue team has also been called.
The Vic Emergency website listed the incident about 1.40pm today.
