Expressions of interest for the job have been called for and a replacement for Raak is set to be announced next week.
CHFL president Eddy Comelli said Raak wouldn’t be reapplying for the position, which he has held since 2016.
Comelli wouldn’t expand on who the board was in talks with, but anticipated that a decision would be made on a new coach at the annual general meeting next Wednesday evening.
Raak’s time in charge of the Highlanders was met with frustration. The CHFL was beaten narrowly in all three AFL Victoria Community Championships matches under Raak, including four-point losses to the Geelong and District and Southern leagues in 2016 and 2017 before a three-point defeat at the hands of Riddell District this year.
The past Hepburn premiership coach said it was time for a different voice and direction.
Results haven’t gone our way, but it has been a fantastic experience...
- Former CHFL coach Clive Raak
“You’ve got to get results and if you’re not getting results, you need to find different ways to get results…,” Raak said.
“I had my time. My five years (two as assistant coach) has been great.
“I’ve enjoyed every moment. Results haven’t gone our way, but it has been a fantastic experience and working with people you don’t know (has also been great).”
The CHFL is 25th on the statewide rankings chart, well below the Ballarat league, which is ninth.
The rankings list does not provide a schedule of matches for 2019, with leagues able to opt-in or withdraw from the competition each season. Entries for the 2019 championships are not requested by AFL Victoria until the end of this year.
