Four Ballarat district racing clubs covering all three codes have landed major funding for infrastructure and cup day attractions through the state government and Victorian Racing Industry Fund.

Racing Minister Martin Pakula announced the cash splash during a visit of venues on Saturday.
Ballarat Turf Club, Ballarat and District Trotting Club, Ballarat Greyhound Racing Club, and Burrumbeet Park and Windermere Racing Club will share almost $300,000 – complementing the $4m the state government has allocated for a $10m gallops synthetic track planned for the BTC.
Pakula said $20,000 had been allocated to upgrade the jockeys’ room at the Ballarat Turf Club, with the club and Racing Victoria each contributing $12,000 to the project.
He said another $29,000 was going to providing Ballarat Cup Day entertainment – complemented by $40,000 from the BTC and $16,000 from Racing Victoria.
Pakula said since 2014, the state government had allocated $5.5m for 10 infrastructure projects and 18 racing events at the turf club.
Other funding announcements:
BALLARAT AND DISTRICT TROTTING CLUB
- $59,000 for horse stalls upgrade (re-asphalting).
- $38,000 for new carpet in function areas.
- $25,000 for Inter Dominion heat race night events on Tuesday, December 4.
The BDTC is contributing $151,000, with Harness Racing Victoria allocating $15,000 to the asphalting.
Pakula said the Labor Government had contributed $253,000 supporting seven infrastructure projects and six racing events at the club.
BALLARAT GREYHOUND RACING CLUB
- $82,000 for 10 new air-conditioning units and Ballarat Cup heat and final race night events.
The BGRC is providing $27,000 for the race nights and Greyhound Victoria $91,000 for the projects.
The Racing Minister said the state government had given $258,000 to the club for five infrastructure projects and nine racing events in the p[ast four years.
BURRUMBEET PARK AND WINDERMERE RACING CLUB
- $26,000 for irrigation and fencing upgrades, with underground watering system installed. This work will be completed by the club’s next meeting on new year’s day.
- $17,000 for Burrumbeet Cup meeting.
The club is providing $38,000 for the projects, while Country Racing Victoria will give $7500 for the annual race meeting.
Pakula said the Labour Government has injected $227,000 for seven infrastructure projects and four race meetings since 2014.
The Minister said if the Labour Government was re-elected next month it would deliver $72m to continue the Victorian Racing Industry Fund for another four years.
