Moorabool Highway Patrol was called out to the scene Tuesday evening after a truck veered off the road, smashing into a black ice sign.
The diver also hit parts of the Moorabool Road bridge that overpasses the highway before fleeing the scene.
Leading Senior Constable Shaun Woodhouse said police were at the scene for about two hours assisting VicRoads clean up the debris.
The highway had to be closed until 6.30pm with traffic being diverted onto the Gordon exit ramp while repairs were being undertaken to fix the sign.
Constable Woodhouse has confirmed CCTV is being used to help identify the driver.
