Sovereign Hill has celebrated Children’s Week 2018 with the opening of their new $1.6 million interactive Play Space. The space is full of new unique equipment, including a gold rush-themed two storey-high sailing ship, jetty and row boat. The play space also includes a full-size coach with carved horses, a poppet head with a large slide, a rock-climbing wall and a mining tunnel with an ore truck. It will tell the story of how thousands flocked to the Ballarat goldfields in the 1850s in search of their fortunes and will feature four interactive play stations. A group of children from Mount Clear Primary school was the first to use the play space after Sovereign Hill CEO Terry Lloyd officially opened the new addition. “At Sovereign Hill, we’ve always prided ourselves on educating children about the history of the gold rush in an entertaining, yet informative way. The play space is an extension of that commitment,” he said. Have you signed up to The Courier's variety of news emails?
