COMMENT

Trust is a deep emotion that creates a meaningful connection between people. It’s something we should have within our family, our friends, teachers, colleges and country.

Through comments made by my fellow classmates I can see the effect of media on trust.

People become reluctant to trust particular races or religions because of the way these groups have been portrayed in the media. Innocent people are too often stereotyped by others fearful of what they feel such a group might represent.

We should be able to trust our government, to put the needs of our country first and help our country at times of need. Yet we have another new prime minister in charge of Australia when we want actions rather than talk.

Trust is an idea you could probably link more closely with your friends, family and partner. Those close to you can have a large impact on your mental health and well-being.

Trust of your parents in you to do the right thing has become harder to develop in a world of social media or fears of dangers in the modern world, like crime reported all over the world and in our communities.

Is this fear created from seeing other family’s grief?

Simplistic ways of representing people or overly dramatic stories in the media can create diminishing trust. This can create more suspicion of others from a lack of understanding on issues.

There is a fear to love, fear that your feelings will not be reciprocated or you will betrayed. We need to let go of these ideas we have been conditioned to believe and start to trust one another more freely.

Bad things are always going to happen, but without trust we are closing doors for our own future.
