An 82-year-old man and 76-year-old woman have been taken to Ballarat Base Hospital in a stable condition after smashing into a tree following a collision with another car
It is understood the two people were travelling in a silver Mercedes sedan were briefly trapped but have been freed by CFA crews.
The driver of a black sedan, the second car involved, is believed to be uninjured.
The incident was caused by a failure to give way.
"The 68 year old man (in the black sedan) was traveling east down Henderson Street approaching the intersection of the avenue has failed to give way to another car travelling in a southerly direction,” Senior Constable Jackie Loveway said.
"They've collided with a tree after colliding with the offending vehicle, from what we understand the tree was quite frail, they're very lucky."
A local farmer The Courier has spoken to has described the corner as terrible.
“It’s a shocking intersection,” the farmer said. “I’ve seen a lot of accidents here and it’s always people failing to give way.
“The trees really obstruct your view, you can’t see what’s coming until you’re in the middle of the intersection.”
