This service will be replaced by road coaches, as will the 5.19pm and 5.59pm trains to Bacchus Marsh, and selected services may run with three carriages instead of six, due to urgent maintenance requirements resulting from animal strikes.
The 4.49pm service from Ararat to Southern Cross will originate at Ballarat, with passengers advised to board a road coach between Ararat and Ballarat – this is unrelated to the animal strikes.
The 5pm Southern Cross to Melton will still run as scheduled.
The disruptions follow a signal fault at Sunshine early this morning, and the cancellation of the 5.50pm to Wendouree yesterday.
A V/Line spokesperson apologised for the reduced capacity.
“A number of the trains need urgent maintenance following animal strikes over the weekend and on Monday and Tuesday,” they said.
“We understand cancellations and shorter trains are frustrating, but safety is our number one priority and we have strict protocols for checking trains for damage if they are involved in an animal strike incident.”
V/Line is working with maintenance providers to get the trains back on the network as quickly as possible.
