The hole was reported around 8pm last night, with City of Ballarat workers at the scene early this morning to assess the damage.
The issue was caused by erosion in the pipes flowing underneath the road. A substantial section of the road will have to be removed to repair the pipes, potentially causing delays.
The bigger issue surrounding this incident is the strength and ability of Ballarat’s old pipe network to handle heavy flows of rain, such as what was received yesterday.
