The commission and club met to discuss the Bulldogs’ options moving forward.
This follows last week’s news that saw the Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball League deny Smythesdale entry into its league and the Central Highlands Football League, where it has played for the past eight seasons, said the club was not welcome back into its league.
This leaves Smythesdale with minimal options, but after a discussion with the commission the club stressed it wanted to continue to fight for its survival and the commission will explore options in the coming days.
Smythesdale president John Cranny said the club was eager to stay as one and exhaust all available options, but was hopeful of an outcome soon given the pressing battle to retain senior players.
“Our attitude is we still want to stay together as a club and can you make that happen for us?,” Cranny told The Courier.
“Goldfields are going to be exploring some avenues for us. Hopefully in the next few days we’ll have a better idea of what we can do.”
AFL Goldfields regional general manager Rod Ward was unable to be contacted, but told The Courier last week how passionate he and commission were to ensure all clubs find the appropriate means to be sustainable for the long-term future.
