A Ballarat jury will return on Monday to continue deliberating the case of two police officers charged with assaulting a fellow officer in custody almost three years ago.
The County Court jury of six women and six men were unable to reach a verdict by Thursday afternoon after deliberating since 11am on Tuesday.
Before midday on Thursday, the jury passed a note to Judge Paul Lacava saying they were unable to reach an unanimous verdict.
The judge then told them he would accept a majority verdict that was agreed upon 11 of the 12 jurors.
But by 4pm, the jury still had not reached a verdict and decided to continue deliberating on Monday, given Friday is a public holiday in Ballarat.
Senior Constable Steven Repac, 29, and Leading Senior Constable Nicole Munro, 48, are on trial for the alleged assaults against Yvonne Berry at the Ballarat Police Station on January 15, 2015.
Repac has pleaded not guilty to five counts of assault while Munro has pleaded not guilty to one count of assault.
On Tuesday, the jury found Repac guilty of one count of assault for kicking Yvonne Berry in the left leg while she lay handcuffed on her stomach in a police cell.
The jury will resume deliberating on Monday at 10am.
