Clowns have an amazing knack of getting into – and onto – moving cars, camels are cool to ride and the Bertie Beetle showbag still rules the roost.
Ohh, and kids still love to play cops and robbers, mainly cops we’ve found out.
The 162nd annual Ballarat Show kicked off in a blaze of colour on Friday and with perfect weather forecast for the weekend, it will only get bigger and better over the next two days.
The gates flung open at 9.30am as youngsters, enjoying a rare day off from school, filled the showgrounds in Creswick Road for the three day carnival.
And there were plenty of highlights to keep the crowds entertained with monster trucks headlining a big afternoon on the main arena, with some spectacular stunts produced by clowns who somehow managed the trick of getting into and out of moving cars as they did burn outs across the oval.
And as always, `every person won a prize’ at Sideshow Alley as games of skill such as the famous clowns took centre stage.
For those looking for a thrill, there was plenty of high speed rides, or the haunted train, or for those looking for a more leisurely view of Ballarat, the Ferris Wheel was just as popular.
The weekend promises plenty of action with highlights for today the beef judging, horse judging and the VAS Dog Jump which will get underway at 1pm. Another favourite on throughout the day today is the Australian and Victorian Championship woodchop while the horseback whipcrack demo promises to be an exciting addition.
Tonight’s highlight will be the fireworks spectacular which is scheduled to start at 9pm.
Gates open today at 9.30am-10pm. Tomorrow is 9.30am-4pm.
