A 68-strong Midlands District Amateur Swimming Association squad produced 46 podium finishes in the Vic Country 8-12 year competitionat Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre on Saturday.
Midlands contested 248 individual events for 11 gold, eight silver and 12 bronze medals.
The MDASA had 15 top three finishes from 16 relay swims.
This gave Midlands second position to Gippsland in the meet aggregate.
Eight-year-old Mackenzie Crocker was Midlands’ most outstanding male competitor, winning
four of his 50m events – butterfly (43.44 seconds), backstroke (48.28),
breaststroke (53.61) and freestyle (38.87).
Eight-year-old Noah Connell also impressed as a first-time swimmer at this event, finishing second in the 50m backstroke in a personal best time of 50.86
Nine-year-old Ava Candy had another outstanding year, improving on her performance last year.
She was first in all four of her 50m events – butterfly (41.7), backstroke (43.32), breaststroke (47.72) and freestyle (36.80).
She was joined on the podium in backstroke event by teammate Eliza Ashby, who shaved 7.96 seconds off her entry time to place third in 45.64.
Luca Geue was Midlands’ best overall performer in terms of number of podium finishes.
