Macneil Group director Paul McCuskey said a consultation session to be held this evening at St Andrews’s Sunday School on Dawson Street North was an important part of the planning for whatever happened in the future at the bluestone kirk, which had its foundation stone laid in 1862, its tower and spire added in 1884 and was finally completed in 1926.
He stressed to The Courier there were no plans in place for the site at present, and zoning applications were only just now being assessed.
St Andrews was offered for sale after the Uniting Church of Australia sought ways to cover debt incurred due to the collapse of Acacia College.
The low-fee college in Mernda closed in December 2012, leaving the Uniting Church with a $36-million debt and a plan to sell assets to recover the costs of the school.

St Andrews Kirk went to auction in 2013, but was passed in at $2.5 million.
In a statement issued by Macneil Group, Mr McCuskey wrote the developers wanted to ‘investigate different ideas on how to re-purpose the different heritage-listed buildings and explore the potential to develop the surrounding site.'
The session at St Andrew’s Sunday School runs from 4pm to 7pm tonight.
