Ballarat Turf Club chief executive officer Lachlan McKenzie expects two trials to be run at Sportsbet-Ballarat.
He said up to 17 graduates of Magic Millions sales would most likely be qualified to make the field limit of 11 on Saturday, November 24.
McKenzie said the clockwise trials in Ballarat carried more weight this year.
As well as providing experience at what in Victoria is the reverse way of going – stewards require horses trained in Victoria, SA and Tasmania to complete a clockwise jump-out to their satisfaction in Ballarat to be eligible to accept for the classic – ballot conditions have been modified to reward the highest placegetters in the trials.
McKenzie said he expected the clockwise classic to again have some interstate representation, with past winner Gai Waterhouse possibly having a runner.
She scored with the Craig Williams-ridden Carriages four years ago.
This will be the seventh edition of the race, which was primarily created to give Victorian horses clockwise experience in readiness for the Magic Millions Carnival on the Gold Coast early in the new year.
