Congestion on the Ballarat train line could be eased after a government promise to build an extra 54 V/Line carriages if it wins the election.

Premier Daniel Andrews visited the Bombardier site in Dandenong on Wednesday morning, announcing the government would spend a further $340 million to build the carriages, if it wins the election.
They would built for the Ballarat and Geelong lines, comprising of 18 new three-car carriages.
However, it is not know how many trains would be dedicated to each line.
Labor claims the the trains will be complete by 2021.

Premier Daniel Andrews is expected to visit Ballarat today to give further details on the announcement.
The announcement follows bold plans by both sides of government to build fast rail between Ballarat and Melbourne in the longer term.
The premier has already committed $100 million for detailed planning of the long-awaited project, which would see travel time cut to less than an hour.
Opposition leader Matthew Guy had previously pledged a $19 billion regional rail plan that would see nearly all of V/Line's tracks rebuilt to enable 200km/h services, including express runs to firstly Geelong, and later Ballarat. If successful, Liberal claims it would see travel cut to 45 minutes.
