POLICE are warning business owners across the state to be wary of an EFTPOS scam currently in operation.

The identified incidents are occurring when two or more offenders enter a business and purchase goods via a hand held EFTPOS terminal.
When entering a PIN, another offender will distract the employee as they amend the transaction to reflect they have been over charged.
When presented with a receipt they then demand a cash refund.
Similar incidents have also occurred where the offender will simply amend the transaction to become a refund. In this instance the funds will be credited to their card instead of debited.
The offences have occurred mainly at food shops, but also other business such as clothing shops, florists and toy shops.
