On the 40th anniversary year of the event in Australia, the march will take place in Ballarat on Friday night.
Reclaim The Night events reinforce the right of women to be in public spaces, where they are often intimidated, harassed and assaulted at the hands of male offenders.
Co-organiser Kate Poynter said events like Reclaim The Night were an important chance to “bring about that change we want to see”.
“The government can talk, but it’s up to us to change and challenge attitudes that are disrespectful to women,” she said. “I think it sends a strong message when we come together as community to publicly stand against violence towards women.”
Bar Choir will perform in Alfred Deakin Place from 6.30pm, before the march begins from there at 7pm.
Police superintendent Jenny Wilson and WRISC Family Violence Support’s Libby Jewson will speak, with attendees asked to bring placards along.
