The revamp would include upgrades to the outdated cricket nets for the Ballarat Redan Cricket Club, improvements to team and social rooms, and fixes for the outdoor undercover viewing area.
If the state government is re-elected, improvements will also be made to provide extra parking and storage space, fresh precinct fencing and a new digital scoreboard.
Labor sports minister John Eren said the election promise would give Alfredton teams “the space they need to grow, attract more members and win coveted silverware”.
Participation at the sporting precinct is growing season on season, with more than 1000 juniors playing sport across football, rugby, netball and cricket at the Alfredton Recreation Reserve in 2018.
Another major cornerstone of the election pledge is the creation of new female-friendly facilities, meaning the 175 women and girls playing netball and football at the ground will no longer have to change in the nearby public toilets.
Wendouree Labor candidate Juliana Addison said that with many young families calling Alfredton home, the upgrade could “deliver the world class facilities our young athletes deserve” and make sure “our female changing facilities are up to scratch”.
