The Ballarat Eureka Strikers will hold an extraordinary general meeting of members on December 4 with the view of agreeing to an amalgamation with Ballarat City, the region’s National Premier Leagues Victoria entity.
A statement on the Strikers’ Facebook page details that talks between the two clubs commenced in late August.
On the back of those discussions, Strikers members are now set to vote on the merger.
The following resolution will be put to members early next month.
“It is proposed that the Ballarat Eureka Strikers join the Ballarat City Football Club, with the Ballarat Eureka Strikers' female football activities and teams coming under the management and within the structure of the Ballarat City Football Club,” the statement read.
“In this process, it is further proposed that the Ballarat Eureka Strikers' Football Victoria club registration be transferred to the Ballarat City Football Club and that the Ballarat Eureka Strikers Soccer Club be wound up.”
Ballarat City immediate past chairman John Livingston said his club was keen on the merger and said if approved by the Strikers, the merger would be a formality at City’s annual general meeting in mid-December.
The Ballarat Eureka Strikers Soccer Club was created when the Ballarat Lady Devils dissolved in late 2014. The Lady Devils were aligned with the Ballarat Red Devils, a men’s state league entity.
