Everything was going along just fine until Mother Nature decided it was time to have her say.
As the clocked ticked over 1.30pm, a crack of lightning filled the sky in the distance and everyone got the sense the sky was about to open.
But before racegoers even had the chance to open their form guide or down another mouthful, the torrential rain came down.
Off came the high heels and the dash to the shelter began.
Races were delayed, the track was downgraded and there were genuine fears the Ballarat Cup might actually be called off.
However, as quickly as the rains come, off they went and normality resumed – albeit a bit soggier underfoot.
The good news? It doesn’t look like we will be seeing a repeat this time around.
A possible shower is forecast for Saturday, with a top of 17 degrees.
