The horse had only recently returned from a long injury lay-off to win the group 3 Swan Hill Cup at his first start back from more than a year on the sidelines.
When trained by Larry Eastman, Menin Gate won group 1 races including the Victoria Derby, the Vicbred Super Series and Breeders Crown Series three-year-old colts and geldings finals and the Queensland Derby.
In all, he won 16 of his 41 career starts for more than $500,000 in prizemoney.
Menin Gate’s injury comes not long after Stanley’s one-time Inter Dominion favourite Soho Tribeca underwent surgery for a fractured leg.
In some good news for the stable, Stanley won the Gunbower Pacing Cup with the progressive Rackemup Tigerpie on Sunday.
The four-year-old has now won eight of his last 11 starts.
