EXTRA moves to revitalise Sebastopol with more trees and smoother footpaths are back in the spotlight with potential funding for the town centre. Labor has pledged to invest $5 million to beatify the town centre, should it be re-elected to government, and work with City of Ballarat and the community to develop a central park.

City of Ballarat south ward councillor Des Hudson said it was great to see support to improve such a significant area in the city.
Cr Hudson said Power Park had been a key focal point in City of Ballarat’s healthy neighbourhood master plan for Sebastopol as an under-used potential health and recreation space for people living in Sebastopol, Bonshaw and Delacombe.
The park, on the corner of Grant Street and Ross Creek Road, no longer holds equestrian events and Cr Hudson said the space needed a re-work to best benefit community needs.
“Power Park has enormous recreation potential for a community garden, dog walking park, and youth space like maybe a half-basketball court,” Cr Hudson said.
Labor candidate for Buninyong Michaela Settle said it was important Sebastopol remain a great place to live.
“Sebastopol has a strong and proud heart – we want to make sure it has the community spaces to match,” Ms Settle said.
The Labor pledge builds on the Andrews Government’s $58.6 million commitment to upgrade key intersections across Ballarat to keep traffic flowing.
This includes Albert Street to be widened from two to four lanes, with new traffic lights to be installed at the Hertford Street intersection. There will also be a new dual-carriage roundabout at Docwra Street and a school crossing upgrade for Magpie Primary School.
