Principal Marnie Cooper said the investment would make a massive difference to the growing school.
“A purpose-built stadium means we can stay on site for PE classes, stay on site for all our graduation ceremonies and in-school events and we don’t have to outsource any more,” she said.
“Because we are a growing community we are outgrowing all the space we have … which will mean a huge difference to our connectedness as a school.”
Ms Cooper said the gymnasium would also be used by the wider community and sporting clubs.
The new building would also deliver a financial benefit to the school, which now has to hire the neighbouring Doug Dean Stadium for PE classes and events.
“We pay for our usage there and we do use it a lot. But if we get our own facility here on site, apart from days like yesterday when we get wet going to PE, it will be much easier and far less of a financial burden,” Ms Cooper said.
The election promise comes just months after $2 million was spent at the school to upgrade existing classrooms, build two new classrooms, new toilets and a staff room.
