Smythesdale president John Cranny is planning to attend the league’s annual general meeting in Lake Bolac on Wednesday night, where he will address members from the competition’s 12 clubs.
Mininera and District Football League president John Box said the Bulldogs’ fate would not be decided on Wednesday night, with clubs being allowed to go away and discuss things before providing a vote.
Box said the vote would definitely be completed before Christmas and likely much earlier.
“We’re not going to let it drag out,” he told The Courier.
“The board will not make the decision. It’s up to the clubs - they are the stakeholders.
“We won’t be taking any votes on Wednesday night. It will be back to the clubs to take back to their clubs and decide.”
Box said the main issue with Smythesdale’s request was the extra travel it would create for existing clubs.
Cranny said the Bulldogs had asked the Mininera and District league for a two-year probation.
Smythesdale has been left without a home after being closed off by the Central Highlands and Maryborough Castlemaine District competitions.
The attempt to move to the Mininera and District league appears one of the last options for the club to be able to play football and netball in 2019.
