McCallum has signed with Ballarat league club North Ballarat City, which is looking to rebuild its big-man stocks.
This is not the first time McCallum has made the transition.
He left the Miners at the end of 2012 to play with Learmonth in the CHFL – playing 27 games over two seasons.
McCallum then made the move to his hometown Melton Bloods before returning to the South East Australian Basketball League in 2017.
North coach Shane Skontra was happy to describe McCallum as a “project player” after four years out of football.
He said big-bodied McCallum had some work to do, but being in his late 20s the timing was ideal.
North Ballarat has also recruited CHFL talls Brock Freeman from Springbank and Scott Howard, who returns to City after four seasons at Beaufort.
Freeman is an agile two-time premiership player with the Tigers.
Skontra said the signing of McCallum, Freeman and Howard was all about opening up options and adding depth.
Harry Loader combined with Nathan and Sam Dunstan to carry most of ruck load this year.
Nathan Dunstan is moving to Hepburn, while Sam Dunstan is also expected to find a new home.
Skontra said North Ballarat was again looking to blood youngsters next season as it looked to build on its semi-final appearance this year.
