Getting ready for school will take half the time it used to for sisters Aeron and Mason Johns after the Ballarat Grammar sisters shaved their long hair to raise money for the Leukemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave.

In front of about 500 schoolmates, teachers and family members the sisters said goodbye to their long locks and in the process raised about $6500 for the cause.
“It’s actually a bit of a relief and a bit scary, but I’m getting used to it,” Aeron said after the shave. “At first I don’t think my parents really believed me because I’ve always had really long hair and I guess they didn’t think I’d go through with it, then Mason said she would do it too.”
Aeron said she was thrilled at the amount she and Mason managed to raise, having at first thought they’d be lucky to raise $800 each.
“I don’t have any family connection to people with leukemia but I do have a lot of family members who have had other types of cancer, and family friends who have suffered from leukemia and had to lose all their hair without having a choice. The World’s Greatest Shave is a really good way to raise a lot of money to help, and shaving my hair off might spark a few conversations.”
