League president John Box said the Bulldogs presented a good case for their admission into the competition next season at Wednesday night’s annual general meeting.
He said Mininera and District clubs now had time to go away and discuss the decision before submitting a vote.
Box said there needed to be a 75 per cent majority in favour of the move to allow Smythesdale entry into the league for 2019.
The Bulldogs are looking to make the move from the Central Highlands league, where they have played football and netball since 2011.
Smythesdale has been left without a home after being closed off by the Central Highlands and Maryborough Castlemaine District competitions.
Club president John Cranny said the Bulldogs were seeking a two-year probation in the Mininera and District ranks.
