Ms Pulford was previously the Minister for Agriculture, Minister for Regional Development and Deputy Leader of the Government in the Legislative Council.
The Courier put a series of questions to Ms Pulford regarding her new portfolios, asking about the future of the Link Road project between the Western Freeway and Midland Highway, accident black spots on Sturt street and Remembrance Drive; the new Gov Hub and the future of VicRoads staff being moved from Melbourne to Ballarat.
We'll review the City of Ballarat's business case (for the Link Road) and see if it stacks up
- Jaala Pulford, MLC
With regard to the $80 million stage one duplication and road to the Glenelg Highway that council has slated for the Link Road project, and the project overall, Ms Pulford made no commitments but gave a one-line answer:
“The government’s position on the Link Road is clear, we’ll review the City of Ballarat’s business case and see if it stacks up.”
In answer to questions about Sturt Street and Remembrance Drive, the possible elimination of traffic black spots at CBD intersections, the creation of a bike path in Sturt Streets’s centre and safety measures to reduce fatalities on the Drive, Ms Pulford again gave a succinct answer:
“We’ve also been very clear about Sturt Street. We’ve asked Regional Roads Victoria to do some further work to develop a proposal that meets community expectations and that work is ongoing.”
Ms Pulford said Regional Roads Victoria was created ‘to make sure that the people responsible for fixing country roads, have to drive on them every day; now we have a Minister that drives on them too’.
Upon declaration of her election, new member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes will take on Ms Pulford’s previous portfolios of Regional Development, Agriculture, and Resources, and become Deputy Leader of the Government in the upper house.
The Andrews Government was re-elected last Saturday with an increased majority in the Assembly and an increased number of seats in the Legislative Council.
