Webbcona won all four rinks, taking home a 118 shots to 73 victory.

The two sides were met by difficult conditions, but Webbcona overcame them to beat the ninth-placed Highton.

“It was really pleasing, all 16 players handled what were some pretty tricky conditions with the wind and the greens were running really fast,” Webbcona premier bowler Anne Draffen said.

“It was nice to get off to a good start and follow through at the end.”

In what has been a tough start to the season, two wins from eight matches, Draffen said she had full confidence the side was capable of matching it at the level – Saturday was a step in the right direction to returning to that form.

“We’re very confident that we’re up to the standard, but our results haven’t been falling our way the first half of the season.

“So it was nice to get out and really play well and show that we are a competitor.

“I back us to play well (in this competition).

“We’ve had some really close games against some of the top sides.

“All it takes is a couple of bowls either way and that can make or break the game...if a bit of luck goes your way you can get the result on the board, which was nice.”

Webbcona will take on Buninyong next week in what bodes as another winnable game – Buninyong also having just the two wins for the season to date.

That match-up will be followed by a clash against second-placed Bareena, which is sure to provide a telling test.

“It will be another tough game, but we’ll go into it with a bit of confidence and hopefully we can string together two in a row.”

Meanwhile in premier bowls action, Ocean Grove were far too strong for Buninyong in the Friday night fixture in Geelong.

The Grubbers won by 96 shots, 148-52, keeping them well clear on top of the ladder.

Sebastopol maintained its spot in third position with a 100-76 win over Lara.

Top four teams Bareena and Queenscliff fought out the closest match of the round, Queenscliff getting home by eight shots – giving it a handy buffer in fourth spot. While Eastern Park defeated Victoria by 18 shots, 110-82.

After eight rounds, it is clear the top six sides have opened up a gap on the rest of the competition, with the top four also enjoying a handy buffer.
