The senior representative team was defeated by the Gisborne and District league at Wendouree’s CE Brown Reserve on Sunday.
BCA captain Ryan Knowles won the toss and sent in the visitors, which produced a strong total of 8-250 from its 50 overs.
Jayden Hayes was easily the BCA’s best bowler after claiming 4-39 from his 10 overs.
Ballarat then attempted to haul in the target and started strongly, with openers Ryan Simmonds (33) and Lachlan Herring (45) combining for a stand of 63.
After that, wickets started to fall at more frequent intervals and in the end the Gisborne side was able to dismiss the hosts for 239 in the last over of the game.
Liam Rigby was Ballarat’s leading batsman with 54 down the tail of the order.
Meanwhile, the BCA’s under-21 side – which plays in division two – had a good win over the Maryborough and District competition.
The Ballarat boys dismissed Maryborough and District for 115 before hauling in the total with three wickets in hand. The side kept batting and was eventually bowled out for 189.
Tom Hannett made 71 for the BCA, while Zac Jenkins snared three wickets in a good display with the ball.
Sunday’s match was played at the Northern Oval.
