That is the hope that police and family members of missing man Albert Smith are holding onto two months after the 88-year-old went missing from a Ballan care centre.

On Tuesday, Moorabool Police set up an information caravan in Main Road Mount Egerton, the last place where Mr Smith was confirmed to have been seen after he went missing on October 8.

The caravan was set up in a hope that a local may have seen him on the day he went missing and can provide the vital clue needed to find him.

A mannequin wearing clothes similar to that of what Mr Smith was wearing at the time was also part of the set up.

Detective Senior Constable John Hageman said despite numrous public appeals over the past two months, there had been basically no information as to the elderly man’s whereabouts in the last six to seven weeks.

“There’ been plenty of traffic going past and we’ve been approached by a few people but at this stage there’s no new information coming forward as yet,” Senior Constable Hageman said.

“We know he probably hitchhiked to the Morrisons Cemetery (where his wife is buried), because we’ve had confirmed sightings of him there, but he did not have a car there, so what’s happened after that is a mystery.

“We don’t know who it was who gave him a lift to the cemetery and we would love that person to come forward and help us in the investigation.”

Detective Senior Constable Hageman said it was likely that Mr Smith had attempted to head home to nearby Mount Doran from the cemetery, but he had not been seen since.
