He donated a large lasagne to the Soup Bus on Wednesday after gaining confidence in the kitchen with youth counsellor Chrissie Coucher.
Ms Coucher said since they had begun cooking sessions one on one together in the school kitchen, she had seen Xavier’s confidence and skills grow.
“It became obvious cooking and food preparation was something Xavier was good at,” she said.
“He started cooking for staff morning teas before he decided to broaden it to the community.”
A representative from the Soup Bus visited Xavier at Mount Rowan to pick up his lasagne on Wednesday.
Xavier plans to continue cooking for the Soup Bus when school returns next year.
Ms Coucher said the extra cooking experience helped Xavier choose new electives and motivated him to put his preferences in early.
“Cooking has given him a pathway. Knowing he is good at it has increased his confidence at school,” she said.
