Coaches will replace trains from 8 December to Sunday 16 December between Wendouree and Southern Cross.
Commuters should expect trips to take an extra 45 minutes during the nine-day shutdown, with foundations for the Ballan Station pedestrian overpass to be installed.
“Passengers can look forward to improved stations, extra services and better reliability once the project is complete in late 2019,” Regional Rail Revival director Mark Havryluk said.
Sections of the existing track will be moved during the week, to allow for additional track to be laid between Caroline Springs Station and Melton, as part of the 18-kilometre duplication in this section.
It follows a slew of service changes along the Ballarat line on Friday, due to extreme temperatures. After midday, V/Line had a number of trains running at reduced speed, while 16 other trains trips were cancelled or changed.
