The figures, which take in statistics to the 12 months to June 30 this year show those living in postcode 3350 - which takes in Wendouree, Mitchell Park and Lake Gardens – ranked 13th in the state for burglaries per 100,000 population.
The region recorded 1352.29 offences per 100,000 population in the 12 months. The burglary hotspot in the state is Fitzroy which had 1972.02 recorded burglaries per 100,000 population.
The wide-ranging statistics which have been compiled take in a range of offences, with the region around Sebastopol and Delacombe - falling into postcode 3356 - among the most likely to be involved in family violence, ranking 14th in Victoria.
The figures show postcode 3356 had 275 family violence serious assault incidents per 100,000 population which police were required.
The majority of Ballarat suburbs - which fall under the 3350 postcode - such as Ballarat Central, Alfredton, Canadian, Ballarat East and Ballarat North, generally ranked well across the board with breach of orders ranked at number 34 being the top ranked in this area, while burglary was 36th and motor vehicle crime 39th.
One area that Ballarat rates incredibly favourably in all postcodes is in drug use and possession with central Ballarat the highest locally ranked 83rd in the state.
But it’s not all good news, with the burglary and theft rate in all Ballarat suburbs ranking much higher than the regional Victorian average.
Even Ballarat’s lowest ranked postcode of 3350 showed 998 cases of burglary per 100,000 population, well above the state regional average of 659.11.
Inspector Dan Davison said he wasn’t surprised by the statistics, imploring the community to take heed of police warnings about locking up goods.
“Burglary and theft is certainly and major concern, but we have seen some good results over the last 12 months with our public awareness campaign and targeting of recidivist offenders,” he said.
“It’s a timely reminder for people to lock up your goods, not leave keys in a place that can be easily accessed by the thief and take care of their property.”
The figures also take in statistics across the last decade.
By far, the most commonly reported crime in the state is theft from a motor vehicle.
Over the past decade there have been 473,814 reports of cars being broken into across the state and items like wallets, phones or numberplates being stolen.
Almost 14 per cent of crimes reported to police - about one in seven - is a theft from a car.
Incident rates have been calculated using census postcode population figures.
CSA Victoria calculates its incident rates using enhanced population estimates from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). The figures are underpinned by census data, but factor in undercounting, natural birth rates and net migration.
